ROSE GARDENS WELCOMES 10,000th VISITOR

The recently opened ‘Gardens of the Rose’ in Chiswell Green, St Albans welcomed its 10,000th visitor to the gardens on Tuesday 18th September.

Royal National Rose Society’s retiring CEO, Richard Adams, presented Fred Taylor from Rickmansworth a bottle of champagne and an annual pass for two people to the Gardens for 2008.   Fred was accompanied by his daughter, Julie Fordham.

The Rosebud’s Cafe within the grounds which has been serving visitors with quality home-made food, locally sourced wherever possible, throughout the summer, is also giving Fred and Julie complimentary cream tea for two.

Fred Taylor with daughter Julie Fordham congatulated by retiring CEO Richard Adams.

The Gardens of the Rose are now closed for the winter and will re-open in June 2008.

The gardens have proved to be very popular since their re-opening in June and visitor numbers have been very encouraging. Next year, events in the gardens should attract even more visitors and additional coach parties will bring in much needed revenue. Rosebuds tea room has been an unquestionable success, providing good quality light refreshments at a reasonable cost.

The gardens staff will be adding to the rose planting over the winter months and also adding more complimentary plants to provide even more colour and interest in the beds.

The Royal National Rose Society would like to thank all those who have visited the gardens this year and hope that we will be able to welcome them back next year to share the future improvements  as the plants grow and the gardens mature.

Thanks also are due to all the volunteers who have helped in so many ways during the season with practical assistance in the garden and facilities.
