There is a wonderful diversity of roses to complement other border plants and create stunning effects. Their long flowering season (June to first frosts) coupled with underplanting for year round colour, makes optimum use of the ground space. Roses are suitable for any position in a mixed border and with a little planning you can range the varieties from just 50cm high at the front, to 75cm high in the middle through to 100cm plus for the back of the border.
Because rose breeders have been looking to repeat the best features of the old Victorian favourites and combine them with the health and vigour of modern hybrids, we now have such treats as 'Gertrude Jekyll', a large-flowered, very fragrant rose which will flower well into winter. |
