 Roses for Older Varieties

Roses of Special Merit The majority of roses in this list have been introduced in recent times. Most of the older roses only flower once in early summer, but some do repeat flower and some bear quite handsome hips. A selection of some of the better varieties is given below with a indication of where they might best be placed.
'Cecile Brunner Climbing' Climber; light pink, light fragrance, up to 12ft. Walls and arches
'Ispahan' Shrub Rose; pink, good fragrance. Middle to back of a mixed border
'Jacques Cartier' Shrub Rose; pink, good fragrance. Front to middle of a mixed border or for a hedge
'Louise Odier' Shrub Rose; pink, good fragrance, repeats. Middle to back of a mixed border
'Mme Alfred Carrière' Climber; blush white, good fragrance, up to 15ft. Walls and fences
'Rosa Mundi' Shrub rose; pink with pale pink stripes, little fragrance. Lovely as a hedge
'Rose de Rescht' Shrub Rose; deep mauve-pink, strong fragrance. Front to middle of a mixed border
'William Lobb' Shrub Rose; purple, good fragrance. Middle to back of a mixed border
